Valentina Sampaio is the first trans model in Victoria’s Secret company. She becomes the latest model of the lingerie brand and the first to make history.
Previously, this Brazilian model has made her first success signing up as a L’Oreal brand ambassador in 2016 and was also the first trans model to be recognized on a cover of Vogue Paris in 2017. She decided to present all her fans on Instagram with a behind-the-scenes look of the VS Pink photoshoot, a sub brand of the lingerie company.
Lais Ribeiro, a fellow Victoria’s Secret angel has shared her excitement via Twitter, “First transgender [person] to shoot with Vs! This make me so happy!”.
Yet no official confirmation has been given by Victoria’s Secret company for hiring her! However, the decision would help repair relations with the trans community as in the past this relationship has been a rocky one!
Last year the lingerie company came under scrutiny after the chief marketing officer expressed that transgender models should not be featured in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.
“Shouldn’t you have transsexuals in the show? No. No, I don’t think we should,” he said in an interview with Vogue. “Well, why not? Because the show is a fantasy, It’s a 42-minute entertainment special. That’s what it is. It is the only one of its kind in the world, and any other fashion brand in the world would take it in a minute, including the competitors that are carping at us. And they carp at us because we’re the leader.”
Of course, trans influencer and beauty brand owner Nikita Dragun tweeted “Dear Victoria’s Secret, you said trans women can’t sell the ‘fantasy,’ so here I am as a trans woman selling the fantasy,”.
This marks a new step and a change in the fashion world, as this major company might give the first step to influence others to make this move.
