The teaser trailer for the upcoming Judy Garland biopic, with Renée Zellweger in the lead role as Judy herself is now out!
During the teaser, Renée Zellweger can be heard singing, with her own vocals, the iconic music “Over the Rainbow” that Judy Garland sang for the movie The Wizard of Oz, from 1939.
This new drama, Judy, will hit cinemas around October, and accompanies Garland final year and concerts in London before her death, around 1969. The movie will open in London during her sell-out run of concerts.
Renée Zellweger spent hours a day in the make-up chair to become the amazing star Judy Garland, and the uncanny resemblance is stunning.
“It was such a joy learning about the magnificence of this person,” Zellweger told People, “I always admired her. She was so quick and so funny. She could hit the ball back with the best of them.”
Liza Minnelli, daughter of Judy Garland, has said she doesn’t “approve” of Judy, “I don’t know how these stories get started, but I do not approve nor sanction the upcoming film about Judy Garland in any way.”
Judy Garland, who died from an accidental overdose at the age of 47, was a cult and has been considered a gay icon for decades.
“I couldn’t care less. I sing to people!” said Judy Garland when questioned about having so many gay followers in 1965.
The movie will also star Rufus Sewell as Garland’s third husband, Finn Wittrock as her fifth, Michael Gambon as her manager, Bella Ramsey as her daughter Lorna Luft and Gemma-Leah Devereux as Liza Minnelli.
