Teacher in California Stopped from delivering Pamphlet

When good Intentions are badly received or perceived.

A non-binary teacher at Denair Middle School, in California, created and delivered a unicorn graphic pamphlet to help and explain gender identity to his students, but was stopped from doing so.

The science teacher from Denair Middle School, decided to handout to the seventh and eighth grade students, these sheets he created based on the Trans Student Educational Resources, on their first day of term to help them understand the diversity of genders and feelings, plus how the non-binary want to be addressed by Mx instead of the Mr or Ms.

The teacher in question was stopped from delivering these sheets by the principal, implying that the issue presented on the sheets is discussed with children but only in health classes and that he was violating school rules by addressing subjects to be taught in another class.

Nonetheless the school received several complains about the handout, by the parents.

“My stepson came home from Denair Middle School with this paper, that was handed out to the first and second period seventh grade kids… they stopped it after second period and reprimanded the teacher.

“I don’t care what you identify as, that’s your decision. But NO ONE has the right to ask my child these questions that have absolutely nothing to do with what you are teaching in a classroom.” Said one parent

Although other parents were supportive of this situation and wrote on Facebook “So the problem is that it came from a science teacher instead of a health/sex ed teacher?”

“Kids are more sophisticated these days thanks to this age of information. I see no harm in educating them about diversity if it helps them be more open minded and understanding when they meet others who seem different to them.”

The delivered pamphlet to help teach about gender identity.

Nowadays being a teacher, is considered one of the most challenging professions of our era, as they must address several issues from parents and the students. Whatever their age! Adding to the old issues, new themes have arrived and are here to stay!
