Russian man was arrested in connection to the murder of LGBT Activist’s Yelena Grigoryeva . Her body was found last Sunday (21st of July) in bushes close to her home in St. Petersburg.
Having suffered multiple stab wounds and strangulation, according to the Investigative Committee she was believed to be targeted by a Russian website designed to “hunt”, entitled “The Saw”, LGBT+ people, with photos and addresses shared for people to target and attack!
Although the site was taken down by authorities last week, and after more than a year online, it wasn’t enough to stop an attack.
The name of the suspect has yet to be revealed, but he was identified as a man from Soviet Kyrgyzstan, with around 38 years-old and was drunk during the attack!
“The murder was committed on domestic grounds during a conflict that arose between two people who had known each other previously,” the Investigative Committee said, and that her name showing up on the web site has nothing to do with the case. they said the suspect showed up intoxicated at the address where Yelena Grigoryeva was found dead. Police say Yelena Grigoryeva was stabbed in the back and face at least eight times during a “sudden domestic conflict” that erupted.
“Elena Grigoryeva was a brave defender of rights, the LGBTQ community and various civil initiatives. We call on Russian authorities to conduct a thorough and objective investigation.”, the US Embassy in Russia has asked for a thorough investigation on this case
