Madonna was recently confirmed to perform at the Eurovision in Tel Aviv with two songs. One of these is a well-known track, while the other will be a new song with political messages.
For months, rumors that the pop star would be performing at the Eurovision circulated the news and media. Although some reported that the pop star was in talks to make a guest appearance at the annual singing competition.
The Eurovision will be Madonna’s fourth performance in Israel, where she will spend some days ahead of the festival. Her other performances were held in 1993, 2009 and 2012.
Tel Aviv was chosen to hold the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest mainly because it’s considered to be the country’s most LGBT+ friendly city, following Netta’s win on the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest in Portugal.
Even so the Eurovision Song Contest has seen some controversy rise because of the ongoing conflict in the country between Israel and Palestine, with some calling for boycotts over the competition.
“Adams believes that the participation of an artist like Madonna in this year’s how will significantly increase the exposure and media coverage of the Eurovision Song Contest itself and the corresponding events… as well as of the wonderful people and beauty of the State of Israel.” Said an associate of Sylvan Adams, the billionaire that will pay for Madonna’s performance.
